Plans for Estero ‘entertainment district’ approved

[ad_1]

Estero, Fla. — The Village of Estero voted Wednesday to begin the first phase of developing an “entertainment district” near Williams Road.

“Our vision is to create a sports and entertainment district that primarily benefits Estero residents,” said Estero Village Manager Steve Sarkozy. “The village council yesterday approved preliminary works for the establishment of underground utilities and road structures, as well as stormwater storage works for later private development,” Sarkozy said.

The first design concept was to build an indoor pickleball court.

“In surveys and research conducted with broad public participation, we found that pickleballs were – not surprisingly – a really important ingredient that we didn’t have,” Sarkozy said.

Sarkozy also said they may have six to twelve indoor pickleball courts in this new facility.

Some Estero residents, like Rachel Borkowski, were unsure how they would feel about another piece of land under development.

“Actually [I’m] It’s a bit of a mix. I do like the idea of staying like wildlife and trees, I just think it’s important to keep some space,” she said.

However, Bolkowski is also excited about a possible indoor event at Estero.

Ron Begole shares his excitement for the new program.

“Estro is a growing village and we don’t have many opportunities for indoor recreation,” he said.

Bergler is very happy that this area is for the people, not for more people.

“I think people will be happy to know there’s going to be something other than more condos and apartments,” he said.

The village is now taking the next step, talking to various builders to get a design for the concept. The infrastructure project is expected to be completed within 18 months, but the final project completion date remains unknown.
