Health and Wellness Community Resource Expo

Magnolia Baptist Church, located at 960 East Buchanan Street in Baton Rouge, will host a Health and Wellness Community Resource Fair on July 8th from 9 a.m. to noon.

The goal of the event is to connect with and serve the South Baton Rouge community to promote healthy living and, more importantly, to educate the community about available resources for those in need.

Services include behavioral health, physical health, food and shelter, East Baton Rouge Parish Library, seniors, transportation assistance, and more. Admission to the exhibition is free.

Paws Mini Golf Putter

Cat Haven, a no-kill cat and kitten shelter, will host its second annual Putts for Paws Miniature Golf on Sunday, July 2nd from 11am-4pm. The event will be held at All Star Lanes at 9829 Airline Highway.

Proceeds from all ticket, food and beverage sales will help fund Cat Haven’s mission to help Baton Rouge’s cats and kittens. Food will be served from All Star Lanes, including hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad and chips, as well as soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.

General admission is $10, and admission plus food is $25.

Community Voices Concert

The prestigious “Voices of the Community” concert, held since 1991, will be held at the Baton Rouge Stake Center (10335 Highland Road) on July 9 at 4 p.m. This year’s theme is Harambe – Together for Peace.

Astronomy Congress to be held in Baton Rouge

The 2023 Astronomical Union Conference (ALCon) will be held July 26-29 at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center. The meeting will be hosted by the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society.

The Astronomical Union is a national amateur astronomy organization made up of more than 300 societies from across the United States. The goal of the Alliance is to encourage interest in amateur astronomy through education and incentives.

The theme of ALCon 2023 will be “Astronomical Soup,” which represents the confluence of different subfields and people within the broad field of astronomy. Keynote speakers at the conference were David Eicher, author and editor-in-chief, Astronomy magazine; Fred Espenak, eclipse expert and co-author of Total Eclipses: The Great American Eclipses of 2017 and 2024; David Levy , author and comet hunter.

Scheduled field trips include the Livingston Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), the Erin Pennington Planetarium at the Louisiana Museum of Arts and Sciences, Highland Road Park Observatory and LSU’s Landolt Observatory .
