Abu Dhabi announces world’s largest autonomous racing league

The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing Alliance, established by ASPIRE, aims to advance the research and development of autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence to push the boundaries of future mobility.
Abu Dhabi is becoming the world capital of extreme self-driving racing. The league announced today that its first self-driving car race will take place in the second quarter of 2024. The alliance will kick off with a self-driving car race in the second quarter of 2024.

To be held at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the self-driving car race will be the first in a series of self-driving car races.Prize pool up to $2.25 million, the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Car Race will feature Dallara-built Super Formula cars that Japan Race Promotion, Inc. (JRP) has commissioned. Super Formula cars, the fastest cars in the world outside of Formula 1, will have plenty of gear for self-driving cars.

A core objective of the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing Alliance is to push the boundaries of autonomous vehicles by hosting challenges to advance the development of autonomous racing and artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, applied research in preparation for the alliance will develop cutting-edge and low-risk solutions to significantly reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions through improved efficiency, while raising safety and performance standards in motorsport and commercial transport.

The JRP will enable ASPIRE to utilize one of the most advanced racing cars in the world to push the limits and high speed of autonomous driving by providing the Abu Dhabi Automated Racing League with exclusive access to the Dallara Super Formula car. Key members of the JRP will also share their significant expertise in race management accumulated over 50 years since 1973.

Race spectators will be invited into a new world of entertainment, experiencing the thrill of face-to-face self-driving racing, live-updated screens with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) infographics and live displays.
