The family of a child who died in Al Ain city due to medical negligence by some doctors have been awarded Dh400,000 in blood money and compensation.
The Al Ain Civil Court directed the two hospitals and their doctors to jointly pay compensation to the parents of the deceased after being found guilty of negligence and treatment error.
The parents have filed a lawsuit against the hospital and its doctors seeking Dh15 million in compensation for their child’s death, official court documents said.
Although the child’s condition required immediate treatment, he was transferred from one hospital to another.
The family said their child later died as a result of the doctor’s negligence, carelessness and failure to use the correct standard of care.
The child’s father has lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, which issued a report saying the accused was responsible for the child’s death due to failure to provide necessary medical care.
The report of the High Medical Accountability Commission revealed that serious medical errors had occurred and that the treatment provided by the hospital did not meet medical standards. The committee also accused the doctor of instructing the patient to be transferred to another hospital without transferring him to an ambulance despite the patient’s emergency.
The criminal court had earlier convicted two hospitals and their doctors of medical error causing the child’s death and ordered them to jointly pay the child’s parents a blood debt of Dh200,000.
The family then filed a civil lawsuit against the accused, demanding that the hospital and its doctors pay Dh200,000 in compensation to the parents in addition to the blood money, bringing the total amount to Dh400,000.
The hospital was also required to pay the parents’ legal costs.
