Abu Dhabi Fog Today: 80km/h Speed Limit Imposed on Major Roads
Abu Dhabi fog today has prompted police to temporarily reduce speed limits to 80km/h on several major roads across the emirate as dense fog causes severely reduced visibility.
The National Centre of Meteorology issued a fog alert covering coastal and inland areas from late Friday night into Saturday morning. Visibility was expected to deteriorate significantly in some locations and could become extremely low at times.
Abu Dhabi Police activated the temporary speed restrictions on several important routes, including sections of the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road, Al Taff Road, Umm Al Zumoul Road and Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road. Other affected routes include parts of Mohamed Al Falahi Al Yasi Road, Sheikha Salama bint Butti Road and Sweihan Road.
The temporary limits are part of Abu Dhabi’s variable speed system. During fog and other conditions that reduce visibility, authorities can lower speed limits and display the changes on electronic road signs.
Drivers have been urged to follow the speed shown on electronic information boards rather than relying on the normal speed limit for the road. Motorists should also maintain a greater distance from other vehicles, avoid sudden lane changes and reduce distractions while driving in foggy conditions.
The latest weather forecast indicates that humid conditions could continue to bring fog or mist to some coastal and inland areas during overnight and early-morning periods.
Drivers travelling through Abu Dhabi should therefore check road conditions and follow police instructions before starting their journey.
