Accommodation Review: Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort

[ad_1]

A true oasis of luxury in the middle of nowhere in Abu Dhabi…

Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort is a palatial oasis, a true ‘sandcastle’ surrounded by towering sand dunes. Hailed as a luxury retreat for hermit-seekers in the international tourism market, it offers quality pampering, walking wellness tours, Bedouin-inspired experiences and royal court-level service. And some fun movie trivia: It was recently home to the cast and crew of the first two new films as a makeshift “back location” dune Movie. But we wanted to stay and see how it would function as a family accommodation.

that place

Anantara’s journey to the Qasr Al Sarab desert resort is a spell, it is part of the resort’s charm and goes a long way toward experiencing uniqueness and secluded charm. A 2-hour drive from the center of Abu Dhabi (3 hours from Dubai), follow a desert road through open spaces chasing rising and collapsing oceans of sand. On your journey, you’ll pass through the clawed shadows of skyscrapers and cross the latitude parallel to the Tropic of Cancer. At the end of the voyage, the hotel emerges – nested within the fantastical geography – a natural dune valley framed by the soaring Amber Peaks. At night, the air is free of light pollution and air particles, and the sky resembles a shimmering sequined robe. What a humbling sight.

look and feel

Emirates desert hotels represent some of the most spectacular ‘get away from it all’ holiday opportunities to be found anywhere in the world. They are a rare breed, both in landscape and in their juxtaposition of home and vacation. Qasr Al Sarab is perhaps the truest prototype of this type of resort. The sand line between it and other similar properties is one of range, quality and scope. Guests are welcomed into a space defined by timeless elegance, designed in a style that respects tradition, celebrates locality, and demonstrates a disregard for compromise. Its name, which means “prosperous palace,” is punctuated with palm trees and pool villas, fluttering drapes and shady courtyards—a name that fits the crown perfectly.

Room

This desert castle has 140 rooms, 14 suites and 53 pool villas (the category we stayed in). The design theme of the hotel’s public areas continues into the private areas, with sophisticated décor and a romantic reverence for the Bedouin way of life. A large private plunge pool is located at the rear of the villa, offering panoramic views of the surrounding desert landscape. Outside there are rain showers and cabin-style loungers, and inside you’ll find all the modern conveniences and gadgets you’ve come to expect away from.

facility

Relaxation is the main purpose of casa Qasr. Whatever that means to you. Besides the usual treatments and massages, the spa has a lot to offer, such as a traditional Moroccan hammam with marble beds; an ice room; Biologique Recherche trained therapists; desert yoga classes; sunset meditations and more. There is a huge (supervised) kids club, teens club, gym, paddle court and swimming pool. Desert-specific activities include sandboarding, camel riding, nature walks, stargazing, dune buggy, archery, falconry and saluki shows, fat bikes, horseback riding and stargazing at an open-air cinema. And hoping to open in April, it’s a completely different experience than anywhere else in the area – Ezba. Here, guests will be able to get up close and personal with native wildlife, wander the farm spaces and see sustainability, environmental and restoration projects in progress.

diet

Anantara’s Qasr Al Sarab desert resort recently announced that this aspect of the resort will be prioritized for improvement. It has produced some delicious fruit. We checked out their temporary “Around the World” menu popup. It was an incredible win for the 12-course tasting menu in partnership with former MENA 50 Best Top Restaurant 3Fils and sister confectionery brand BRIX. Following a comprehensive menu crafted by local chef legends, Dina Macki’s recently re-launched Al Falaj now exudes regionally inspired aromas in parliament-style seating under the stars.

price

Pro tip: There is a special offers page on the site Anantara Network – Discounted room rates, additional incentives and some attractive package content for GCC residents. But even just below par – you can choose villas from around Dhs4,000, suites from Dhs3,200 and rooms from less than Dhs2,000 (all prices are before taxes) . This isn’t budget territory, but when you compare it to similar properties – it does translate into great value.
