Advanced Devices in the UAE That Reduce Road Accident Fatalities in Bad Weather

An innovative road alert system in Abu Dhabi has proven highly effective in preventing road accidents and saving lives. The Abu Dhabi Police announced the success of this radar-like emergency device system, which was installed along major Abu Dhabi highways eight months ago. These devices are situated at 100-meter intervals along the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Highway (E 11) and utilize a color-coded warning system to provide critical information to motorists.

Color-Coded Alert System for Enhanced Safety

The alert system employs a color-coded approach to communicate different messages to drivers. When red and blue lights flash simultaneously, it indicates the presence of a traffic accident ahead. In contrast, when the yellow light is activated, it serves as a warning for motorists to slow down, particularly in response to adverse weather conditions like heavy fog, dust storms, or rain. Importantly, the smart warning device incorporates four different colors, with one reserved for potential future use.

Critical Safety Measures During Inclement Weather: Advanced Devices

A key safety measure associated with the yellow warning light is the automatic reduction of the speed limit to 80 kilometers per hour along the E-11 highway. This reduction from the standard maximum speed limit of 140 kilometers per hour is essential to ensure the safety of all motorists. Those who exceed the 80 km/h speed limit during adverse weather conditions will face penalties for overspeeding.

Building on a Series of Road Safety Initiatives: Advanced Devices

The smart alert system represents the latest addition to a series of road safety initiatives implemented by Abu Dhabi Police since 2018. These earlier measures have included sending SMS alerts to motorists in Abu Dhabi, installing large screens and barriers, as well as implementing radar and camera systems to monitor large buses and heavy vehicles. These vehicles are restricted from using the roads during unfavorable weather conditions.

Expanding Coverage and Saving Lives: Advanced Devices

The solar-powered color-coded warning devices, initially introduced along the E-11 highway, are now undergoing expansion to the Al Dhafra region. Additionally, plans are underway to implement this life-saving alert system on Abu Dhabi’s internal roads. The primary objective of these comprehensive efforts is to significantly enhance road safety, reduce accidents, and ultimately save lives.
