Amazon University Esports, the premier organization for the global academic esports environment, has announced the launch of its new virtual world, University World.
The esports and educational program is open to university students from 16 countries on four continents. The web-based application is launched in the UAE in partnership with Mena Tech Entertainment, a company of GGTech Entertainment.
University World is a newly designed space where students and other viewers who want access to the space will be able to interact with each other in a central hall shared by all countries as well as in specific rooms unique to each country. Players will be able to communicate through the integrated chat and earn points to win prizes through different mini-games and other multiple activities. This will create a global community in virtual space.

Virtual worlds have become increasingly popular in recent years due to the advent of technology, wider access to devices and their increasing use. According to a report by PwC, the Metaverse industry will contribute $15 billion to the Gulf economies by 2030, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE leading the way, while the global market is expected to reach $5 billion over the same period. Dubai has set its sights on becoming one of the world’s top ten metaverse economies through the Dubai Metaverse Strategy announced in January 2023. The strategy aims to advance Dubai’s ambition to expand its blockchain presence and support more than 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030.

One of the fundamental characteristics of Metaverses is that they are self-created by users through interaction with the application. Each user can customize his or her avatar with a different color, name, and a series of predetermined gestures and actions that will be visible to other users in the environment. This alternate world is shaped by a combination of collective participation and personal preference.
The virtual world will continue to evolve to incorporate updated features driven by the needs of the community and how its members want to improve the world. Several improvements are planned for the app, including the introduction of educational materials, news and video seminars.
