Controversial internet personality Andrew Tate has made headlines after he was arrested in Romania on sexual assault and human trafficking charges.
The former kickboxing champion was dropped from the reality show “Big Brother” in 2016 due to a sexual assault and physical abuse investigation, a new report suggests.
The self-proclaimed social media influencer, who was arrested along with his brother Tristan last week, appeared on season 17 of the Channel 5 reality show.
According to Vice, the Big Brother showrunner was informed of the ongoing investigation by police when he appeared on the reality show.
However, the showrunner kept him in the house for five days before taking him away. Tate was removed from the show, with Channel 5 saying his resignation was due to “information that came to light”.
In 2015, two women accused Tate of rape and physical assault, according to media reports.
A spokesman for Banijay UK, the production company behind Big Brother, said: “We began extensive consultations with Channel 5 on 8 June 2016 after Hertfordshire Police informed us that Andrew Tate was under police investigation, and legal team, including attorneys representing Andrew Tate.”
“Andrew has been under intense surveillance during this period, while we have attempted to clarify the details of the police investigation requested by Channel 5.”
