The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday launched a new phase of support for victims of the February 6 earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria.
The UAE Joint Operations Command said in a statement that the new phase of Operation Chivalry 2 focuses on recovery and reconstruction to support those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey. “
According to the statement, the command plans to mobilize humanitarian, food and medical assistance while continuing to operate through existing humanitarian air bridges. “
A UAE health delegation will visit Syria to repair Syrian hospitals, state news agency WAM said. WAM said the UAE will build camps for refugees from Syria and Turkey.
Emirati field hospitals in Islahiye, Gaziantep city, and Reyhanli town, Hatay, southern Turkey, will continue to operate, the news agency said.
The UAE sent 134 strong rescue teams to Turkey and Syria, flew 136 sorties and delivered 3,772 tons of food and medical supplies, WAM reported.
It added that Turkey has also opened two field hospitals.
Two powerful earthquakes that struck southern Turkey on Feb. 6 have killed at least 42,310 people, Turkey’s disaster management agency said Tuesday.
