96 women from eight teams will play in the league

UAE sports event management and training company APS sports has announced that it will host Dubai’s first IPL-style women’s kabaddi tournament from June 16-27.
To raise the profile of the sport in the UAE, the league will feature 96 female players from eight teams competing at Dubai’s Shabab Al Ahli Sports Club.
Gujarat Lions, Greater Maratha, Haryana Fighters, Rajasthan Tigers, Punjab Kings, Dubai Eagles, Tamil Legends and Delhi Kingdom will be the eight teams participating in the tournament.
APS aims to use the championship as a platform to introduce the sport to schools, colleges and universities across the UAE and inspire young people, especially women, to become more active in sports.
“Dubai has become home to several high-profile sporting events. Although kabaddi is popular in India and is now part of the Commonwealth Games, kabaddi is fun for everyone. sports regardless of age and gender,” said Pradeep Nehra, Founder, APS Sports.
“By bringing the sport to Dubai, we hope to inspire women in the Middle East to take part in the sport. We wish the competitors the best of luck.”
Kabaddi is the second most popular sport in India after cricket and is now played in more than 50 countries, achieving mainstream sport status.
Originating in India, this contact sport is played between two teams to score points by entering the opposing team’s field and touching as many defensive players as possible without being caught by the opposing team.
