DUBAI: Celebrities around the world have taken up a new social media challenge that sees them sharing photos 10 years apart to show off how much they’ve changed (or in some cases, how much).
A group of Arab influencers also jumped on the bandwagon, sharing photos a decade apart, including Lebanese star Karen Wazen and Saudi designer and blogger Tamara Al-Gabbani.
Al-Gabbani made two Instagram posts that she claims show her 10 years apart.
“No editing! No filters! Just braces, fuller brows, no more highlights!” she captioned the first post.
Ten years ago, she had blonde hair and thinner eyebrows. Fast-forward to 2019, and Al-Gabbani looks little changed save for jet-black hair and braces.
Wazen shared two side-by-side photos — the first of which was a photo of her with husband Elias Bakhazi.
“It started when we were young,” she captioned the photo.
For her part, Lebanese-Australian model and influencer Jessica Kahawaty shared a composite photo in which she looks almost identical in two photos.
“20 year old me and 30 year old me #10yearchallenge,” she wrote in the post, adding, “I love this little challenge. Shows how evolved we are, and a great excuse to dig up memorable photos — — Unforgettable brow haha (sic).”
While her hair was slightly shorter in 2019 and her brows were fuller, the humanitarian and event host looked largely unchanged.
Saudi-Lebanese fashion star Alanoud Badr also took part in the challenge, sharing a side-by-side composite photo.
It seems like thicker brows are a trend for 2019, as she also appears thinner in her older photos.
Based in Dubai, Badr is a regular on the UAE fashion scene and even launched her own label, Lady Fozaza, in 2011.
Amid the viral craze, many celebrities have shared their photos on Instagram, including Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks and Tyra Banks people.
Lopez shared a throwback photo of herself when she was pregnant, then in a canary yellow swimsuit in 2019, with a belly and toned muscles – and she may have won the challenge because she looks backwards, That’s enough to make us want to hit the gym.
