Vimbai Mukambi, a Zimbabwean model living in the United Arab Emirates, has signed an endorsement deal with a company and fashion house in Abu Dhabi to be their cover girl.

Last year, Mukambi was named one of the highest paid commercial models in the region, which includes Jackie Ngarande, Pokello Nare, Malaika Mushandu, Brita Maselethulini, Hillary Makaya and Nyasha Matonhodze.

The feisty model, who has been a Castle Lager billboard girl since 2014, said that while 2018 was a good year in her career, it wasn’t optimistic at all. This year, she said, she will only focus on commercials for fashion accessories such as handbags, jewellery, shoes and hair.

“I’m happy that 2019 started off well for me. Things weren’t great on my side last year. 2018 was challenging but I can’t say I lost it. I’ve been fighting and this year has been good for me. “

She said that through a local agency, Mukabee got the endorsement news last week and signed a contract.

“I got a call the day after New Years after we submitted my Z card (portfolio) in September. So far, my contract hasn’t required me to share too many details, but I’m Satisfied with what has been achieved since 2019.

“I almost quit the industry given how much competition and the economy had affected the industry. Good things come to those who wait, I had a test run with an internationally renowned photographer at the St. Regis Abu Dhabi Conniche last weekend, It took a great photo,” she said.

She said she was overwhelmed by what she learned and gained in just a few days at the UAE institution and wanted to share it with her family.

“Working with world-renowned photographers, handbag and shoe designers was fantastic and refreshing. I attended a thorough workshop and learned the know-how and know-how of the industry, which I consider to be something I have learned in my hometown. Missing, but necessary. It’s a completely different environment. My photos will be posted online first, before they appear on billboards in Abu Dhabi.

“I will be promoting some international and Emirati fashion brands. When it comes to modeling, I see gaps that are missing in Zimbabwe and want to share my experience with some of the big local agencies,” she says.
