[ad_1]

Duluth – Happy New Years! The year 2023 kicks off in the Northland. Here are six interesting picks from the first week of the year.

What’s the deal with Nicolas Cage and Duluth? Absolutely nothing, except he’s American Idol. The movie star turns 59 on Saturday, and the Depot is hosting a free event on Friday, billing it as “Minnesota’s first mini-Nicolas Cage Film Festival (and birthday celebration).” The films “National Treasure” (2004), “Con Air” (1997) and “Face/Off” (also 1997, what year was that) are screened in sequence, and there are cash bars and discount stands starting at 5:30 pm, with high-end luxury Cookies; Nicolas Cage Trivia & Prizes; and Birthday Celebrations When the Clock Strikes Cage. For more information, see

When it comes to using its newly renovated Symphony Hall Mezzanine, DECC will let you come and go as you please. In November, the venue hosts a series of vinyl happy hour events for after-get off work vibes and liberation; now it’s opening early for Sunrise Coffee morning events every Thursday in January. The concept is simple: If you drive, get free parking, free entry between 7am and 9am, free Duluth Coffee Co. java, and a free sunrise over the skylift bridge. You can’t blame inflation if you miss it.For more information, see

According to the Lutsen Mountains website, this weekend’s two-day ski party is “a throwback to a time when skiing was cool and sexy.” That might sound rude to today’s skiers, but if you’ve seen “The House of Gucci,” you’ll understand it. If ever there was a chance for Charlie Parr to perform in a beige cable-knit turtleneck, it was it. Lanue and Mae Simpson join Parr for Saturday’s show at Papa Charlie’s, followed by Friday night’s previous episode featuring Night Moves, Early Eyes and FenixDion. For tickets and information, see

Just to say it again for those who follow: The 12 Days of Christmas comes after the holiday, not before. Twelfth Night’s Epiphany celebration is the occasion for Shakespearean comedy, and in Duluth it’s the occasion for some hearty organ music. The Friends of the Felgemaker pushed it forward by having the celebration on a Sunday instead of the actual Twelfth Night, which would be Thursday, but that too has historical precedent. do you care There will be mulled cider, festive food and a choir where you can relax – you won’t drown out the Sacré Coeur’s 19th-century organ. For more information, see
