March 18 (United Press International) — Canada-based private equity firm Ethical Capital Partners has acquired MindGeek, the owner of Pornhub and other adult entertainment sites.
The private equity firm focuses on investing in industries “in need of principled, ethical leadership,” according to its websiteand the acquisition of MindGeek comes as the latter faces multiple lawsuits alleging it knowingly profited from child pornography.

Fady Mansour, co-founder of Ethical Capital Partners, said: “In MindGeek, we have identified a dynamic technology brand built on trust, security and compliance.” in a statement Released Friday.
“With ECP’s resources and extensive expertise in regulation, enforcement, public engagement and finance, we have a unique opportunity to enhance what already exists,” he said.
The company noted that MindGeek — which also owns YouPorn, Redtube, Brazzers and adult gaming company Nutaku — “is committed to premium adult entertainment made by adults and for consenting adults.”

In December 2020, MindGeek began requiring users who uploaded adult content to verify their identities and removed all unverified content from its platform.
