On Sunday, July 2, 2023, visit the Nevada Theater’s Downtown Onyx for a very special screening of “Casablanca,” featuring guest host, film historian and avid cinephile MatÃas Bambal Bombal) hosted. The film is presented by Onyx Downtown at the beautifully restored Nevada Theater at 401 Broad Street in historic Downtown Nevada.
Renowned Californian performer, broadcaster and former movie palace manager MatÃas Bombal visits Nevada City for a very special romantic evening honoring Hollywood’s Golden Age. Screenings begin at 7pm with a special introduction by Mr. Bombal.

MatÃas Antonio Bombal, 56, is a film critic for MatÃas Bombal’s Hollywood syndication Capsule Current Cinema Reviews, which he started in the early 1980s Works in projection, runs classic movie theaters and broadcasts repertory shows. He has been working on film and audio restoration and the revival of old film palaces. He emcees at film-related events and teaches film history courses. Originally from Santiago, Chile, he became interested in radio as a teenager when he first aired at the NPR affiliate in Sacramento. In addition to his weekly 10-minute film review segment on Radio KAHI in Northern California, he has produced three documentaries.
The Nevada Theater is the oldest continuously operating theater venue on the West Coast of the United States. Over 155 years old, this exquisite theater has been graced by the likes of Mark Twain and Lola Montez and has recently been renovated with stunning murals.
