Cleopatra Entertainment Has acquired Japanese superhero film “North America and UK distribution rights”Lioness”
The film is written and directed by Japanese cult filmmaker Mitsutake Kurando (“Samurai Avengers: Blind Wolf”) and is based on characters created by prolific manga artist Go Nagai. The story revolves around survivors of a meteor shower who find themselves locked in a battle with each other and a group of creatures called Anoroc, monsters that hunt humans to extract their life force.
The cast includes Tori Griffith (“Wake Up,” “Between Princesses”) as the titular Lioness, Derek Mears, known for her roles in comic book adaptations like The CW’s “Swamp Thing” series, Damian TooFeek Raven (” Chadwick’s Diary”), David Sakurai (“Fantastic Beasts”), Shelby Lee Parks (“Good Trouble”), Matt Standley (“Wonderland”) and Joey Iwayong (“The Fat Dragon”).
Shot entirely in Los Angeles during the height of the COVID-19 lockdown, the film was produced in partnership with Toei Video. The film has screened at professional film festivals, including the Fantastic Film Festival in Australia and the Grossman Fantastic Film Festival in Slovenia.
