Coding ambassadors to highly skilled workers, students and officials in the UAE

Dubai: The UAE’s first batch of ‘coding ambassadors’ have been selected to make coding more engaging and to upskill students, professionals and officials.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, said that fostering an AI-qualified generation is the first step in accelerating the digital transformation of all work modes. He added that the move reflects the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in building the capacity of coders and encouraging them to share their knowledge, to build the “best digital economy”.

His comments come ahead of UAE Code Day (29 October) and the National Coder Programme announcing the selection of 56 coding ambassadors, targeting government and private sector leaders, staff, and university and school students to share Knowledge of the digital and coding community.

Ambassador Mission

Through the program, Ambassadors will coordinate monthly meetings, workshops for Ambassadors and the coding community, and special coding sessions for talent interested in the coding field to improve their skills.

After evaluating and interviewing a number of applicants and passing the final stage of submitting coding case studies, the program has identified three distinct coding ambassador levels.

Silver Tier has 16 ambassadors, including students and recent graduates with coding skills; Gold Tier includes 33 ambassadors who are digital leaders; Platinum includes seven ambassadors who are coding experts, government and private sector leaders owners and employees.

UAE Ambassador

The National Coders Programme selected 23 Emiratis from 56 coding ambassadors from across the country, including Lateefa AlHammadi, Hamed AlHashmi, Bashayer Alsalami, Amna AlHammadi, Faris AlKaabi, Hazaa Daiban from Abu Dhabi;
Drs Essa Basaeed, Mariam AlNaqbi, Muhammad AlBlooshi, Fatima Al Falahi, Maryam AlQassim and Sarah Al Bastaki from Dubai;
Fahd AlJneibi, Hajar Al Naqbi, Ali Abu Zanjal, Muhammad Eid, Reem Jassem from Sharjah;
Dr Ahmed AlAli and Dr Shaher Tayfor from Umm Al Quwain;
Maryam AlMansoori from Ras AlKhaimah;
Moza Quraini, Shaima AlAntali and Maryam AlAmiri from Fujairah.

Points system

Ambassadors will work in different teams, increasing their competitiveness through a points system that will award the most effective teams based on the type of initiative submitted, such as holding conferences, workshops and hackathons.

Coding Ambassadors will inspire people by meeting experts and ‘Get Inspired’ at Coder HQ, hold meetings and share success stories at HQ ‘Meeting’, and organize educational workshops at HQ ‘Learn’ to further support the National Coder Program initiative on new digital approaches.

The Coding Ambassadors initiative was announced on an ‘Update’ platform launched by the minister to increase the number of coders in the UAE and empower the coders community.
