Malaga Airport continues to add attractive destinations for tourists on the Costa del Sol and for locals who want to visit cities further afield. Direct flights to Bahrain and Abu Dhabi will begin this weekend.

Connections from Malaga to the first of these destinations will begin on Saturday, June 17, with the first Gulf Air flight arriving from the Kingdom of Bahrain on Friday. Azerbaijan Airlines’ first flight to the capital of the United Arab Emirates will depart Malaga on Sunday, June 18 at 10:35 am.

Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national carrier, is increasing its operations from two to three weekly flights this peak season. Flights will depart from Costa del Sol airport on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until September 29th.

Today’s first flight from Bahrain is fully booked, while the first flight from Malaga is almost empty, according to travel agencies consulted. “The increase in business is a response to continued growth in demand between the Costa del Sol and the Middle East, as well as selected destinations in Asia and the Indian Ocean,” the company said.

The flight also opens a very convenient gateway to Dubai, Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Male (Maldives), Muscat (Oman), Riyadh or Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) , adding only one hour to the flight time. Gulf Air has also chosen its flagship Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to connect on this route.

Eva Bretos, head of Gulf Air’s representative office in Spain, said at the launch of the flight in March: “I am very pleased to be able to extend the direct flight between Malaga and Bahrain for another year. Gulf Air continues to demonstrate strong Spanish market growth year after year. The company’s differentiated approach as a boutique airline, construction of a new modern terminal in Bahrain and the country’s status as an emerging tourist destination in the region New commitments so that Spanish tourists, both for business and for holidays, continue to grow year on year”.
