Covid-19: Thailand bans public gatherings due to record high virus cases-News

[ad_1]

Violators will face a fine of up to AED 4,480 or two years in prison.

With Covid-19 cases hitting a record high, Thailand has decided to ban public gatherings nationwide and is considering imposing more restrictions on citizens’ actions.

On Saturday, the country’s coronavirus task force reported 10,082 new Covid-19 cases and 141 deaths. According to Channel News Asia (CNA), the current total number of cases is 391,989 and the death toll is 3,240.

Despite the partial lockdown of Bangkok and nine other provinces this week, the latest increase in the number of cases and deaths is still occurring. According to the official announcement, a public assembly ban has been implemented, with a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to US$1,220 (Dh4,480).

Prime Minister Prayut said that as the country continues to face the worst Covid-19 outbreak so far, his government is considering more restrictive measures.

Prayut said on his Facebook page on Friday: “It is necessary to expand measures to limit people’s activities as much as possible and close more facilities to keep only essentials.”

Since Monday, due to the Prayut government trying to reduce new Covid infections, Bangkok and several other provinces have implemented strict restrictions for two weeks.
