Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, recently toured Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International Airport, a facility set to begin operations on November 1, 2023. The terminal, three times the size of its predecessor, is positioned to serve as a hub for 28 airlines connecting to 117 worldwide destinations.
A Comprehensive Visit
During the tour, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed was accompanied by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Advisor of Special Affairs at the Presidential Court and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi Airports. The Crown Prince received an extensive briefing on the terminal’s sustainable infrastructure, world-class amenities, and services.
Remarkable Dimensions and Capacity
Spanning an impressive 742,000 square meters, Terminal A is among the world’s largest terminals, designed with an annual capacity for up to 45 million passengers and the capability to accommodate 79 aircraft concurrently.
UAE’s Infrastructure Enhancement: Terminal
Emphasizing the UAE’s dedication to improving its infrastructure to fulfill strategic ambitions, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed highlighted the terminal’s extended capacity as a key driver of tourism growth. It’s poised to advance the aviation sector and bring about significant advancements in economic and sustainable development in Abu Dhabi. Furthermore, it will strengthen Abu Dhabi’s standing as a global tourism destination and a leading aviation hub.
Successful Trial Exercise
In September, the airport conducted its most extensive trial exercise, which saw participation from over 8,000 volunteers. The exercise aimed to evaluate the efficiency and precision of passenger facilities, encompassing various aspects such as check-in procedures, baggage claim, security screenings, boarding gates, immigration and customs inspections, and passport procedures. This thorough assessment ensures readiness for the terminal’s operational launch.
