The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) commissioned six new 132/11 kV transmission and substations with a conversion capacity of 900 megavolt-amperes (MVA) from January to the end of April at a total investment of AED555 million (US$151 million).

The substations are located in Al Jaddaf; Tilar Ghaf; Baniyas; Jebel Ali Port; Marsa Dubai and Al Yufrah 1 WowThe new project includes 3,450 meters of 132kV grounding cables connected to the main transmission grid.

It said that more than 6 million safe work hours were required to complete the substations, using the latest digital technologies for global transmission substations, thereby strengthening DEWA’s efforts to promote digital transformation across all its services and operations.

Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the total cost of transmission network projects under construction in Dewa exceeds AED5 billion.

Al Tayer said the reliability and availability of the Dewa transmission line was around 100%.

Hussain Lootah, executive vice president of Transmission Power, said: “We are working hard to provide advanced infrastructure, increase the capacity and efficiency of the transmission network in the region, and meet the requirements of customers, developers and the commercial sector.”

“By the end of April 2023, the total number of 132 kV transmission stations in Dubai will reach 340, with 24 more under construction,” he added.
