Dubai is now home to a boutique fashion school that aims to combine innovative learning experiences with Italian expertise to enhance local talent and shape the future of the UAE fashion and design industry.

Marangoni College, one of the world’s leading fashion and design schools, officially opened its campus in Dubai’s International Financial District on Tuesday.

The Faculty will offer a range of three-year undergraduate programmes including Interior Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Fashion and Accessories Design, Fashion Business and Fashion Styling and Creative Direction. It will also offer professional and short courses covering different aspects of the fashion and design industry. Classes for incoming freshmen will begin on September 19.

“We look forward to welcoming our students and helping them turn their talents and passions into careers,” said Roberto La Iacona, Dean of Marangoni College in Dubai.

He added: “Since 1935, the mission of the Marangoni Academy has been to empower talent. Some internationally renowned and award-winning fashion and design stars include Domenico Dolce, Franco Moschino, Alessandro Sartori, Rahul Mishra and Rafael Lopez After graduating from Marangoni College we now hope to support the growth and development of the fashion, design and creative industries in the UAE by nurturing a new generation of local talent.”

Located at Gate 8 of the DIFC, Istituto Marangoni Dubai offers students a modern and stylish environment with all industry and industry-specific facilities, including drawing and sketching rooms, patterning and cutting rooms, fabric library, fashion and design library and an outdoor Terrace.

The realization of the 1,050-square-meter campus was directed by Italian architect Giulio Cappellini, who also designed the furniture, including chairs, tables and sofas used in the school.

Marangoni also has campuses in Paris, London, Mumbai, Miami and Florence.

Stefania Valenti, managing director of Istituto Marangoni, said in an earlier interview with Khaleej Times: “Based on our research, we believe that the Middle East is an ideal destination to create such an establishment here because there are so many luxury brands. Whether it is jewellery, Accessories or any other fashion collection, there is a desire for a culture that is very luxury-oriented.”

She added: “Two years ago, before Covid, we analysed the market here and we got some insights that seemed to be very encouraging. There is clearly a lack of higher education in verticals that have fashion as their core business,”

She further stressed that the school will adopt a specific approach of “learning by doing”.

Valenti added: “Not only will we teach students theory, but there will also be a lot of lab work where students will create prototypes and collections as part of the course. The finalisation of specific collections and fashion looks will require extensive shooting using different tools and create projects related to their promotion. They will also learn new content production activities related to online syndication.
