Dubai Unlicensed Nurseries: 33 Shut Down, 34 People Arrested
Dubai Police have shut down 33 unlicensed nurseries operating across the emirate and arrested 34 people suspected of running them. Authorities said the facilities exposed children to potential health and safety risks.
The crackdown was announced on November 6, 2026, following investigations and field inspections conducted in several parts of Dubai.
According to Dubai Police, some of the illegal nurseries operated inside residential buildings and other locations that were not designed to accommodate children. Investigators found poor hygiene conditions, inadequate safety measures and a lack of proper supervision of staff.
Authorities said the facilities mainly targeted families with limited incomes by offering childcare services at lower prices than licensed nurseries. However, they operated without the required licences and regulatory oversight.
The enforcement operation involved Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, the Community Development Authority and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.
Police teams first identified suspected illegal childcare facilities through investigations and surveillance. Officers then conducted coordinated inspections and raids, resulting in the arrest of 34 suspects linked to the 33 nurseries.
Dubai Police warned that unregulated childcare facilities can expose children to neglect and abuse. They stressed that nurseries must meet official licensing, hygiene and safety requirements.
The authorities have also urged parents to check a nursery’s licence before enrolling their children. Families should not choose childcare services based only on low fees or online advertisements.
Parents and residents can report suspected illegal nursery operations through the Dubai Police call centre on 901, or through its official website and smart application.
Police said public cooperation remains important in identifying unlicensed facilities and protecting children across the emirate.
