EDITORIAL: Campfire or not, going home will be one to remember | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Unfortunately, home bonfire It has been lifted this year due to the county’s ongoing fire ban. As disappointing as this may be, it’s important to remember that this drought is out of the University’s control. Cancelling the bonfire is the best response to ensure the safety of all attendees. SFA deserves recognition as it secures an alternative to campfires. Regardless of how people feel about the cancellation, a 100-drone show is still something to be excited about.

bonfire Tradition started in 1935 and has continuous shooting place every fall. However, this is not the first time it has been cancelled.Just in the past decade, it has been canceled twice due to weather. According to the 2016 yearbook, the last cancellation was in 2015 due to rainy weather. This is also Cancelled in 2011 Because of another burning ban.In the latter case, not the torch, but uUniversity utilizes electric portable lights to “light” and replicate campfires.

While campfires are clearly a cherished tradition for many, at this point it’s mostly just a photo opportunity. Once it’s lit, it can take a while to actually catch it, and by the time it catches it, the guest performers are usually already performing and everyone is behind it. Some might switch to a photo or two, but without it the night certainly wouldn’t be abandoned.

Wildfires are also no small danger.Just this summer, 90% of Texas was in drought, according to data an article Published by The Texas Tribune. Wildfires destroyed crops and forced some residents to leave their homes in west Texas.Drought conditions have now spread to eastern Texas, crippling Nacogdoches and surrounding counties moderate drought. In this case, it is better to be safe than sorry. Campfires are happening near many local homes, and the last thing the SFA needs is a lawsuit for property damage caused by wildfires. The good news is that most students and community participants expressed support and appreciation for SFA’s response to this situation, and they remain positive.

The real failure of cancelling the bonfire is that it will be the last of the December and May graduates. It’s easy to remind people that there will be another in 2023, but for some graduating, they’ll be leaving Nacogdoches forever, missing out on seeing their last bonfire. However, we hope that the drone show will be as memorable for seniors as the campfires of the past.

Back to school is about creating memories, enjoying traditions and having a good time; without fire, this is still possible.Campfire or not, SFA and its surrounding community should thank the university for its responsible decision and swift action to find an alternative programme.
