[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: If you’re visiting Saadiyat and Yas Islands in Abu Dhabi during Eid al-Adha, try a self-driving car called “Txai” (not a typo) for an added dose of discovery and excitement. trip.

The Integrated Transport Center (ITC) announced on Thursday (June 29) that tourists traveling to Saadiyat and Yas Islands during the Eid al-Adha holiday can enjoy completely free self-driving vehicle services.

The ITC said the service, initially piloted on Yas Island in November 2021, ensures a unique journey with high standards of safety and security.

During the trial, a group of TXAIs provided free driverless transportation between designated locations on Yas Island. The vehicles can be called via a smartphone app, and trained security officers are present during each trip.

In October last year, ITC, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipalities and Transport, and in partnership with Bayanat and G42 Group, launched the second phase of the Smart Mobility project on Yas Island and Saadiyat.

Initial trials of five self-driving electric and hybrid taxis began with a nine-stop route operating on Yas Island.

In addition, it was revealed that Bayanat, one of the project’s partners, had completed the mapping of “the entire UAE” in collaboration with the ITC and G42.

“This project is emblematic of our wise leadership’s aspirations and vision for the future, and the ongoing quest to improve quality of life, better serve communities and support the foundations of sustainable development,” ITC said in a tweet.

ITC’s Smart Mobility project aims to revolutionize transport first in Yass and Saadiyat, before expanding to other parts of Abu Dhabi and around the world, using buses as part of a wider plan to improve our mobility in towns and cities efficiency and environmental impact.

The robotaxis were launched in partnership with the emirate’s transport regulator, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), and Abu Dhabi-based real estate and investment firm Miral.

The software and hardware solutions for the vehicle are provided by WeRide, a developer of Level 4 autonomous driving technology.
