Berman said in a recent interview that he has not seen the documentary. “I still don’t know anything about it [Oscar]. But I know it’s important because everyone tells me it’s done India a lot. So it means a lot to us,” he told Hindustan Times in an interview.
Netflix’s Elephant Whisperers, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, is a documentary about the love bond between Bomman and Bellie and their two orphaned baby elephants, Raghu and Ammu. Bomman and his wife are members of the Kattunayakar tribe, a forest community in the Mudumalai Forest Reserve in Tamil Nadu, India.
Bellie, in an earlier interaction Indian Express, expressing her delight at the Oscar win for The Elephant Whisperer. She also noted that a crew member told her that they would be documenting the lives of the young elephants and had all the necessary government permits. “Now, it (documentary) has won an award; it’s a proud moment for the Forest Service, the Mudhumalai camp and us,” she said.
The Elephant Whisperer is streaming on Netflix.
