ABU DHABI, 6th June, 2023 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi will host the long-awaited Middle East premiere of Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning at a red carpet event at the Emirates Palace on 26th June. The cast and crew of the first part of the film, including star Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie.

With the support of the Abu Dhabi Film Council (ADFC), a division of the Creative Media Authority, the breathtaking landscape of the Liwa Desert and the iconic Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal are being used for Paramount The filming location of the movie industry.

The complexity of the shoot – which included the creation of an Arabian village in the desert and multiple sets at the terminal – required the collaboration of multiple businesses and entities in Abu Dhabi, including twofour54 Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Airports (AD Airports) and Etihad Airways, the film’s official airline partner.

This is the second time the Mission: Impossible series has been filmed in Abu Dhabi, following the jaw-dropping HALO jump sequence filmed in Abu Dhabi in 2018 for Mission: Impossible: Fallout, again with ADFC, twofour54 and the UAE military support.

Along with Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff and Simon Pegg are among the other stars who will attend the Middle East premiere later this month.

Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority, said: “It is an honor for Abu Dhabi to host the premiere of Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 and reflects the emirate’s status as one of the top films in the MENA region. We are proud to once again be working with such a genre-defining franchise, which showcases how Abu Dhabi has everything a filmmaker needs to succeed with such a large, complex production.”

It was the success of shooting Mission: Impossible: Fallout in Abu Dhabi that Paramount Pictures once again turned to ADFC to help them with another “mission impossible” – this time purchasing an airport terminal and desert landscapes would really elevate the production. The committee supported the team by securing approvals and permits to film at Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal and Liwa, and liaised closely with multiple stakeholders and Abu Dhabi government entities.

After over a year of planning, filming took place in 2021 within 15 days of the worst of the pandemic in Abu Dhabi, but there were no disruptions due to COVID-19 due to ADFC protocols in place in Abu Dhabi.

As well as building the sets in the Liwa and Midfield terminals, the production team filmed on the 742,000-square-meter terminal’s roof, which is the world’s longest single-standing arch at 180 meters high.
The shoot also benefited from ADFC’s 30% cashback and was supported by a host of other Abu Dhabi companies, specialist suppliers, 125 local freelancers and 250 local extras.
Meanwhile, twofour54 provided full production services to the Mission: Impossible team, obtained filming permits through its Tawasol team, and managed applications required by other government services to ensure a smooth and seamless production.

Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 is one of 140 major productions shot in Abu Dhabi over the past 10 years, from Disney, Netflix, Legendary and Universal Pictures, among others. Movies include Dune and Dune 2, Mission: Impossible: Fallout, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 6 Underground and Fast & Furious 7, as well as Bollywood hits such as Vikram Vedha, Tiger Zinda Hai and Bharat.
