ABU DHABI, 2nd June, 2023 (WAM) — The National Media Office, NMO, held an introductory session in Abu Dhabi on Thursday to inform digital news platforms, content producers and influencers on the UAE’s role in tackling climate change. and hosting of COP28.

Implementing the directives of His Excellency Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the NMO, this meeting aims to leverage resources and efforts to raise public awareness of the importance of climate action and the country’s Awareness of relevant contributions.

Ahmed Al Hosani, Executive Director of the NMO, said the meeting was aimed at building partnerships and engaging in direct and ongoing communication with the media sector, which plays a vital national role in disseminating the country’s message and highlighting its achievements.

He also highlighted the importance of influencers on social media platforms and new media in raising awareness on environmental and sustainability issues, encouraging community engagement and supporting relevant national strategies.

During the session, the Office of the COP28 President explained why hosting the conference is of vital importance to the UAE.

COP28 is an important milestone for global climate action, as it will examine global efforts to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement signed in 2015. The world’s reaction to the scrutiny will be a big talking point at COP28 and attract a lot of media attention.

Hosting the event reflects the country’s vision and goals as part of the 50-Year Principles, with a major focus on promoting sustainable economic development, particularly as climate action has become a key pillar in attracting investment, building strategic alliances and diversifying the economy.

For its part, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment showcased the UAE’s achievements in climate action and its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), and spoke about its strategic plan to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, emphasizing that the UAE has the largest Carbon Sources – Free Electricity in the Arab World.

The ministry also highlighted its efforts to educate the public on three main issues: how to create sustainable habits, how to use digital platforms to engage in climate action narratives, and how to ensure better understanding by providing simple narratives and illustrations Concepts and issues for climate action. explain.

Content creators and social media influencers who attend the gatherings say such gatherings raise awareness of national priorities.

COP28 will be held in Dubai Expo City from 30 November to 12 December and will be attended by 70,000 people including heads of state, government officials, global industry leaders, private sector representatives, youth, civil society figures, academics and climate expert.
