ABU DHABI, 11th January, 2023 (WAM) — Since the launch of the volunteer program at Umm Al Emarat Park in November 2022, more than 72 students have participated, devoting over 576 hours to support the park’s weekly families Friendly Events Park Market.

The students, drawn from high schools across Abu Dhabi, played an important role in providing support in various areas including logistics, event operations and customer relations.

The program provides students with a dynamic and friendly environment to gain work experience, give back to the community by supporting SMEs, and develop soft skills that will equip them for success as they prepare for higher education.

The program will run until March of this year, and applications from students wishing to volunteer continue to be welcome.

Commenting on the volunteer program, Rasha Kablawi, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, Umm Al Emarat Park, said: “As a community-focused park, we are deeply committed to providing young people with opportunities for personal and professional development. This is at the core Our volunteer program has so far seen an overwhelmingly positive response from students across the emirate.”

“This experience enriches not only our volunteers but also our team and partners who really enjoy working with young students. A family-friendly event for the community and our park market vendors are mainly UAE- Entrepreneurs and small business owners. This provides a particularly valuable experience for students keen to explore the business world, enabling them to support local and indigenous businesses,” she continued.

Several volunteers signed up for Umm Al Emarat’s program to help them polish their CVs before they were ready to apply to universities.
Year 12 student Karim Ahmed commented: “This project has benefited me a lot, especially because I can factor these experiences into my university application. By volunteering at the park, I am able to improve My communication skills with vendors and park staff as well as guiding visitors to the park”.

Others appreciate the opportunity to volunteer outdoors rather than completing an internship in an office.

Year 12 student Bassil Herzallah said: “I wanted to do something rewarding but positive and fun, so the volunteering program at Umm Al Emarat Park was the perfect choice to sign up for. The atmosphere was unbelievably happy and always Filled with activities.“

Grade 12 student Sarah Shawah mentioned how grateful she was to be able to volunteer in such a positive environment. “Volunteering at the park has helped me improve my communication and social skills as I have an edge in supporting visitors and vendors. Everyone I work with at the park feels like family.

The best part of the experience is putting smiles on people’s faces and feeling their appreciation for my work. I would definitely recommend joining the volunteer program at Umm Al Emarat Park and lending a helping hand to our community. “

Known as Abu Dhabi’s favorite green destination, Umm Al Emarat Park is one of Abu Dhabi’s oldest and largest urban parks, bringing family and friends together to relax, exercise and play in the heart of the city .
