Emirates to offer inflight broadband on 50 A350s

Emirates will offer passengers a new high-speed in-flight broadband service, powered by Inmarsat’s GX Aviation, on board 50 new Airbus A350 aircraft, scheduled to enter service in 2024.

The new agreement will significantly improve the passenger experience through enhanced connectivity and greater global coverage, even on flights over the Arctic.

The Airbus A350 will be Emirates’ first aircraft to take advantage of Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) satellite network, which powers the world’s first and only globally available broadband network, ensuring passengers are connected regardless of their destination, including North , can enjoy uninterrupted global connectivity.

The advanced high-speed capabilities of broadband will allow Emirates passengers to stay in touch with family and friends, browse the internet and enjoy social media from the comfort of their seats.

The GX network that will power the UAE’s inflight broadband currently consists of five Ka-band satellites and will be further enhanced with the addition of seven more satellite payloads as part of Inmarsat’s well-funded technology roadmap. This includes two Inmarsat-6s, the most advanced commercial communications satellites ever built, both scheduled to enter service in 2023.

This will be followed by three additional satellites in geostationary orbit – increasing speed, capacity and resiliency – and two satellites in highly elliptical orbits to provide the world’s only commercial mobility for aircraft flying at high altitudes and across the Arctic Broadband services, eg routes between the Middle East and North America.
