The Henry County Fairgrounds promises to keep fairgoers entertained in the stands with three days of entertainment Friday through Sunday, July 14-16th.
Kicking off Friday at 6:30 pm, the Henry County Fair features trucks and tractors provided by the Illinois Farm Tractor Association. Tickets are $5 for ages 4 to 10, $7 for ages 11 and older, and free for ages 3 and under. This event is sponsored by Community First Credit Union.
The following evening, Saturday, the Demolition Derby will take place in town at 7pm. A pit pass for the event is $20, while general admission is $10 for ages 11 and up and $5 for ages 10 and under. The contest costs $50 to enter and is hosted by 3T Promotions. This year’s purse is $8,000. The event was facilitated by Pilot Grove Savings Bank.
Traci Venghaus, a member of the Henry County Fair Board, said the board has made it a tradition to host the demolition derby on Saturday nights during fair week and always draws the biggest crowds.
“We took it back when I was in 4-H,” Wenghaus said. “The demo derby draws crowds wherever it goes. People love it.”
Later in the evening, showgoers will enjoy live music from The Boys from 9pm to 11pm. They can enjoy a cold beer while listening to music in the beer garden, which will be open Friday and Saturday nights with grandstand entertainment. The Henry County Farm Bureau is a sponsor of this event.
A new addition for 2022 is back on Sunday, the 1pm ATV Rodeo Registration is open from 11:30am to 12:30pm
Venghaus said the show board is looking for new activity, especially on Sunday afternoons, because the show has historically seen little activity. The ATV Rodeo has been well-received by attendees in its first year, and Venghaus said the board expects attendance at the event to continue to grow for years to come.
The ATV Rodeo replaced the Sunday barbecue competition that the show had hosted for many years.
