Former NAG record holder Joyce Wu commits to Northeastern

new commit: Rockville, MD native Joyce Wu has committed to Northeastern University and will arrive on campus this fall.

Wu is the former national age-group record holder in the women’s 10&U 4×50 medley relay. When she was 12, she was the third-fastest age-group finisher in the top 100 in history at age 50 and 100; six.

she told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Northeastern! Coach Roy and his team made me feel very welcome and excited about my future in Boston. Thanks to everyone who has supported me over the past few years, especially my family , friends, coaches and teachers. Go, Huskies!!!”

Wu competed in her club swim at the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club and competed in the NCSA Championships in March, where she won the 50-man championship.

In 2018, she was one of the youngest swimmers on the Winter Nationals, turning 14 a week before the competition. She is the Potomac Valley record holder for swimming yards and meters.

She also participated in USA Swimming’s Regional Choice Camp, National Diversity Choice Camp and NCSA’s NCSA Choice Camp.

Her best moments include:

  • 50 breasts – 29.19
  • 100 Breasts – 1:02.22
  • 200 Breasts – 2:16.90
  • 200 IM – 2:07.47

Wu, who is about to graduate from Holton-Arms School, finished second in the 100m chest and ninth in the 100m fly at the Metro Championships in February. She won the 100 breast and 200 IM at the WMPSSDL tournament the previous week.

She is also a multiple NISCA All-American and USA Swimming School All-American.
