Genesis unveiled the GV80 Coupe concept at an exclusive event at the Genesis House in New York, combining the practicality of a lifestyle SUV with the dynamism of a sports car.
The four-seater GV80 Coupe Concept adds a new look to the Genesis brand. “It underscores the duality of the Genesis brand by showcasing opposing characters living within the parameters of movement and elegance of the Genesis design philosophy,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Group Chief Creative Officer.
Inspired by the X Speedium Coupe Concept launched in New York last year, the GV80 Coupe Concept is a statement of intent for a more emotional, performance-oriented vehicle and a preview of Genesis’ future plans.
challenge the limit
“The Genesis brand started out building luxury sedans, which evolved into the G70, G80 and G90 models,” said Luc Donckerwolke. “Over the past seven years, we’ve added more lifestyle-oriented products to our portfolio. Models like our GV80 and GV70 SUVs. Now, we’re pushing the envelope with more emotional cars that enhance Genesis’ performance and dynamic attributes.”
Performance-Optimized Sporty Elegance
The front panel of the GV80 Coupe Concept adopts a double G matrix pattern veneer grille, surrounded by four lights, developed from multi-lens array technology for seamless light performance. Four slots in the bumper reduce shadow heat flow for optimal cooling.
Genesis’ rear-wheel-drive platform provides the basis for the GV80 Coupe Concept’s long hood and generous fascia-to-axle ratio. An inverted wedge parabola further emphasizes these delicate proportions. It’s complemented by muscular blisters and fenders that contrast with the vehicle’s elegant coupe silhouette.
A “Designed by Genesis” plaque on the front fenders highlights the unique character of the Genesis model, while five-spoke forged aluminum wheels and a carbon fiber roof – through a lower center of gravity and reduced weight – emphasize the vehicle’s sporty character.
driving dynamics
To further enhance its driving dynamics, the vehicle’s optimized aerodynamic fluidity is complemented by an upper rear spoiler and spoiler lip on the oval concave ducktail for greater downforce at high speeds. Seamless taillights complete the two-line badging at the rear.
The model’s bold design is also reflected in its Magma exterior color, which is inspired by the brand’s uniquely Korean spirit. Describing the color, Donckerwolke said: “The color symbolizes the confident and enthusiastic attitude of Korea. The first impression is that of quiet, efficient, self-disciplined and humble, which quickly contrasts with a high-performance and outgoing attitude.” .”
White Space Beauty Meets Performance
Continuing the exterior theme, the interior of the GV80 Coupe Concept is a contrast between Genesis’s elegant philosophy of white space aesthetics and sporty attributes.
The three-spoke steering wheel plays an important role in emphasizing the sporty character of the GV80 Coupe Concept’s interior, with black Nappa and suede leather contrasting with plaid double stitching, orange piping and carbon fiber weave on the functional surfaces.
Four bucket seats provide greater body support when cornering, helping to improve passenger safety and comfort, while body-coloured carbon fiber backrests further accentuate the GV80 Coupe Concept’s extroverted character. The structural rigidity of the body is enhanced by G-Matrix struts behind the bucket seats.
