The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Abu Dhabi (IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi) is set to commence its inaugural batch, offering 25 seats for a master’s program in Energy Transition and Sustainability (ETS). In an exclusive interview with Khaleej Times, Dr Ahmed Sultan Al Shoaibi, acting executive director of the Higher Education Sector at the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek), provided insights into the admission process and the diverse student body anticipated for the program.
Admission Process: Ensuring Comprehensive and Fair Selection
To maintain a comprehensive and fair student selection process, authorities have implemented a thorough admission procedure. Candidates will be evaluated based on qualifications, language proficiency, and academic performance. Prerequisites include a four-year bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, with specific criteria for those holding a three-year bachelor’s degree.
Qualification Criteria: Cutoffs and Requirements: IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi
The admission cutoff is set at a CGPA of 7.5/10, a 3.0/4.0, or graduating with a percentage of 75 and above. Candidates with less than one year of work experience must achieve specified scores in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). An additional admission test will assess knowledge of engineering concepts related to energy and sustainability.
Language Proficiency and Exemptions: IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi
Proficiency in English, evaluated through EmSAT, TOEFL, or IELTS, is a mandatory requirement. However, exemptions apply for candidates who have completed their education in an English-medium institution from English-speaking countries.
Future Outlook: Potential Expansion and Student Diversity
Dr Al Shoaibi hinted at the possibility of increasing the number of seats in response to sustained demand. The master’s program at IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi is expected to attract a diverse student body, including Emiratis and international students. The scheduled start date for the program is January 2024.
