“I felt really flat, especially on the bike. It was so hot and windy and it made it really tough.

“But I’m happy to stand out – I give my best in every game.”

Taylor-Brown knew the title was safe as long as she finished ahead of Spivey. For a while, this was the strategy she explained: “I was thinking about Taylor, I’m really happy when she’s in the front row, it definitely makes me work harder. But she’s also willing to work on the bike.

“I’m very happy Soph [Sophie Coldwell] There I was almost more focused on her race because I really wanted her to be on the podium too!

“I actually felt pretty good on my last run. I went out and caught Taylor and I was going to sit with her, but then I thought I’d give it a go now and if it doesn’t pay off, there’s nothing I can do, at least I There will be tried.

“So I gave it my all and got a nice gap and after that it was okay to relax and take it to the end.
