Imran Khan faces ‘criminal conspiracy’ charge for May 9th violence

Pakistan’s ex-PM Imran Khan faces ‘criminal conspiracy’ charges linked to the May 9 violence, according to a senior Punjab Police official. Khan, arrested by paramilitary Rangers on May 9 on corruption charges, led to nationwide protests. Riots led to the damage of military and government buildings, including the military HQ in Rawalpindi.

Khan and PTI members are accused of attacking Lahore Corps Commander House and Askari Tower on May 9. Lahore police’s Anoosh Masood stated that Khan and PTI members are charged with inciting attacks on state and military facilities.

Khan, initially arrested in the Toshakhana case, was granted bail but re-arrested in the cipher case under the Official Secrets Act. He is seeking post-arrest bail in the cipher case, which involves a missing diplomatic document.
