Iranian diplomat claims he met French, German and British diplomats in UAE

According to Iranian pro-government media reports, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagherikani visited the UAE in the spirit of promoting cooperation and political consultations to “examine regional issues with the authorities”.

He noted in a tweet that he also met with key European counterparts, which has drawn attention across the region.

“Following diplomatic consultations with regional and extra-regional parties, we met our German, French and British counterparts in Abu Dhabi to discuss a range of issues and issues of mutual concern,” Bagheri said on Twitter. The meeting with the Europeans follows a phone call between French President Emmanuel Macron and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisy and reports that U.S. envoy Brett McGurk to oman Discuss issues related to Iran.

Back in January, Syrian regime media SANA quoted Carney as saying, “Tehran stands by its principled position in the negotiations to lift the sanctions and embargo imposed on it.”

According to Iranian media IRNA, Bagheri said, “Negotiations are ongoing without interruption, and relevant issues are being seriously pursued.”

Iran does engage UAE in 2021

November 2021, Iranian diplomats Conducted similar outreach to the UAE. Anwar Gargash, the UAE president’s diplomatic adviser, said at the time that he hoped to do so “soon,” according to a New Arab report.

On November 24 of that year, Carney, then Iran’s top nuclear deal negotiator, met with Gargash and other Emirati officials. This latest visit is part of a longer process that coincides with reports of Iran-Saudi rapprochement and of France and the United States seeking to engage with Iran more than in the past.
