Ishaq Dar looks to strengthen ties with UAE in maritime sector

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue Senator Ishaq Dar on Monday decided to form a committee to negotiate a draft framework agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to further strengthen relations between the two countries in the maritime field, ARY News reported.

Ishaq Dar chaired the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Intergovernmental Commercial Transactions (CCoIGCT) in Islamabad, according to a statement issued by the finance ministry.

The Cabinet Committee has considered the Ministry of Maritime Affairs’ summary on the operation management of Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT).

The committee has been informed that Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP), owned by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has expressed interest in operating the container terminal.

The CCoIGT has deliberated and decided to form a committee to negotiate a draft framework agreement between the governments of the UAE and Pakistan under the Intergovernmental Commercial Transactions Act 2022 to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries in the maritime field.

Among them, Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Saeed Faisal Ali Suzwari, Federal Power Minister Kuram Dastagir Khan attended the meeting; Federal Minister of Commerce Sainavi Karma; SAPM Revenue, Tariq Pasha; Attorney General, Minister of Finance, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Minister of Law and Justice of Pakistan.
