Jeplan, Rebound to build PET chemical recycling plant in UAE

[ad_1]

Japan-based recycling company Jeplan has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to build a PET chemical recycling plant in the UAE in partnership with Rebound, a global trade platform for recycled plastics and an Abu Dhabi-based international holding company ( International Holding Company (Immunohistochemistry).

The agreement was signed by Jeplan CEO and co-founder Masaki Takao and Rebound managing director Maryam Al Mansoori at the recent Make it in the Emirates forum.

Rebound last year launched Rebound Plastic Exchange (RPX), the first global quality-assured recycled plastic trading platform.

According to the agreement, the two parties will conduct joint research on the project in stages, and Jeplan will participate in the quality survey of used PET bottles collected in the UAE, the verification of recycling costs, and the verification of factory manufacturing operations.

Through the joint study, the parties will target partner companies in the UAE with the aim of establishing a supply chain for recycled PET in the country.

The leading Japanese recycling group will be involved in quality surveys, verification of recycling costs and verification of factory manufacturing operations for used PET bottles collected in the UAE.

Both Jeplan and Rebound participated in the joint validation in the UAE in recognition of their more than 10 years of knowledge and know-how in the recycling business, a company spokesman said.

The joint study is expected to culminate in a demonstration project to build a PET chemical recycling plant ahead of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai this November.

He said used products from the group’s PET chemical recycling technology “BRING” for PET bottles and polyester fibers can be recycled to the same quality as petroleum-derived products.

It realizes the repeated recycling of resources and helps to reduce CO2 emissions. The group operates PET chemical recycling commercial plants using the technology at two sites in Japan, he added.
