Lauren Lapkus will executive produce and star in the postpartum comedy “Another Happy Day.”
The new film will be directed by Nora Fiffer in her feature film directorial debut and is currently in production in Chicago. The plot is loosely based on her experiences as a mother.
Lauren will play Joanna, a “madman” who’s so embarrassed about being a mother that she candidly says, “I’m not a real mom, I just have a baby, you know?”.
The new mother, who is also an artist, doesn’t make any art and feels terrible about taking care of her newborn.
Joanna struggles to get her old job back, her friends move on without her, and her husband thinks he’s a better mother than her. In her desperate search for a friend, she stumbles upon an unlikely bond with an estranged aunt she barely knows.
Lapkus, 36, said: “Nora’s script was so moving and funny, it really felt rewarding to make this film as a new mom.
“The first few weeks of parenting can be so isolating, no matter how well-prepared you think you are, it can be unsettling. I think Nora captures that feeling in a unique way, and I’m so excited to share that story.”
Fiffer added: “I often think that my transition to motherhood would be a lot easier if I had a clearer picture of my new parenthood.
“The purpose here is to capture this raw, tense and absurd time that rarely occurs in film.”
Jessie Holder Tourtellotte of Inherent Films will appear in the film alongside Lapkus and is in production. Lauren has joined Eugene Sun Park as the film’s executive producer.
