—Comedian Paula Poundstone brings laughter to Fairfield (contributed). While she’s been making people laugh professionally for over four decades, comedian Paula Poundstone is on tour in Fairfield next week, but she’s always got something new view.

Beginning early in her career, starting on the East Coast and then moving west to San Francisco and Los Angeles, Poundstone caught the attention of several established comedians, including Robin Williams, who hosted ” Saturday Night Live.”

In the late 1980s, Poundstone recorded several HBO comedy specials, and in 1992 was a special correspondent for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno covering that year’s presidential election.

Poundstone’s live shows – she’s known for interacting with people in the crowd and making them part of the show – have been her favorite channel for years. This was one of the major aspects of her career that she missed during the COVID lockdown.

“I’m jealous of musicians because they can do, you know, an intimate concert in their living room — even if my performance doesn’t involve talking to the audience, which is my favorite part of the night,” Pound Stone said. “That’s really the core of it. You can’t do stand-up comedy — it’s a dialogue, and if you don’t have someone on the other side, then it doesn’t have that reaction. They come up with laughter for this, you You know, in life in general. For God’s sake, even the Flintstones have laughter.”

Now that she’s back on the road, she finds that her fans miss her as much as they miss her.

“It was great to be back with the audience and they said to me, ‘Thank you for being here!’ It was like a relationship,” Poundstone said.

“Everything that’s happening on the show is just mashed together – it’s a great experience talking to individual viewers. I’d ask ‘what do you do for a living?’ “Biographies came out, and I used that to set myself up. Someone would tell me something that reminded me of a story or a piece of material somewhere in my head. No two shows are the same,” Poundstone said .
