Man freezes partner to steal her pension in Sweden

A 57-year-old Norwegian man received a 3.5-year prison sentence in a Swedish court for fraud and falsifying records, including placing his deceased partner in a freezer and cashing in her pension.

The Warm land District Court convicted him of gross breach of civil liberties, gross fraud, and document falsification. The man stored the body in the freezer, which he also used for food storage, after claiming to have found her dead in their Arjang home.

Investigators discovered the body in March after receiving a tip. To obtain his partner’s pension from Norway and a tax refund, the man concealed her death from family and friends, leading to the fraud conviction, which involved approximately 1.3 million kronor ($116,750). He also falsified documents related to vehicle ownership and registrations in the deceased’s name.
