Manchester City players shine in Etihad Pilot Challenge

[ad_1]

Star player John Stones has won the chance to be an Etihad Airways simulator pilot as part of a fun challenge with Manchester City’s long-term partner Etihad Airways.

Barnsley Beckenbauer landed safely in the sky in a Boeing 787 simulator to take on his Manchester City team-mates Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte.

In a new video released ahead of their upcoming exciting match in Istanbul, players go head-to-head in a flight school challenge to determine which player can fly in Etihad Airways’ new destination. The record for the fastest controlled landing was set at 1 airport, including Copenhagen, Lisbon and Kolkata.

Stepping into a replica cockpit, three soccer players were handed the controls of a simulator plane, where they faced ever-changing weather conditions and wind speeds. They take off from a high altitude at the chosen airport with the aim of approaching and landing safely on the runway in the fastest possible time.

While Ake (The Flying Dutchman) and Laporte (Captain Aymerica) scored impressive results in Copenhagen and Lisbon respectively, Stones soared to the top of the leaderboard with a best landing time of 2 minutes and 59 seconds.

Amina Taher, Vice President, Brand, Marketing and Sponsorship, Etihad Airways, said: “Manchester City have some of the most talented players in world football. Good mental fortitude.

“At Etihad Airways, we place great emphasis on training world-class pilots. While learning how to land an aircraft safely takes a lot of training and experience, we wanted to see how these same players fare when challenged to compete in a new type of arena. What happens; judgment, coordination, spatial awareness and reflexes are all put to the test here.

“Congratulations to all the players who landed their planes at our new destination airport, especially John Stones, who can now add honorary Etihad Airways wings to his achievement.”

Competitors’ final recorded flight school challenge results (in order):

1. John Stones, Barnsley Beckenbauer – 2:59:05
2. Aymeric Laporte, Captain Aymerica – 3:08:27
3. The Flying Dutchman Nathan Ake – 3:15:02 – trade arab news agency
