Following the announcement of the Abu Dhabi Community Movement in support of the national organ and tissue donation and transplantation program ‘Hayat’, which was launched by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, the regulatory body for the health sector in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, the number of registrations for the ‘Hayat’ program attracted more than 10,000 Organ donors from various nationalities, backgrounds and ages expressed their desire to become posthumous organ donors.
This affirms their belief in the importance of organ donation as a noble humanitarian act that embodies the highest meaning of giving and brings new hope in life to others. These values ​​create a vivid scene of community solidarity, and organ donation, both in life and after death, has saved many patients from full recovery.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Health, in collaboration with several partners from the public and private sectors, launched the Abu Dhabi Community Campaign in support of the programme.
The campaign aims to encourage community members to register as organ and tissue donors and contribute to improving the quality of life of those suffering from organ failure. Abu Dhabi Department of Health Chairman Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed and members of the department’s management team were the first to register as organ and tissue donors at the event.
Launched during the International Conference on Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Initiative in Abu Dhabi from 7-9 November 2022, the community movement has since expanded its reach through a series of community events and events, including the Zayed Charity Marathon and ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2022, as well as several other marathons organized by the event’s partners.

Dr Ali Al Obaidli, Chairman of the UAE National Transplantation Council, said: “We are grateful to the Abu Dhabi Department of Health for their efforts and tremendous support through the Abu Dhabi Community Event, which has certainly helped to raise awareness among the community.
The National Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Program ‘Hayat’ is a concerted effort of many federal and local entities, as well as government and private institutions, to achieve noble goals based on saving many lives and instilling hope for the well-being of communities in the UAE and the region. ”
The Abu Dhabi community event focused on encouraging all community members to register requests for post-mortem organ and tissue donation, highlighting the successes achieved in Abu Dhabi and showcasing the emirate’s experience and capabilities in the field of organ and tissue donation and transplantation.
The campaign aims to continue raising community awareness of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and avoiding the chances of developing lifestyle-related diseases and organ failure, thereby reducing the need for transplants. This awareness includes regular physical activity and a healthy diet to avoid chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and other health conditions.
One individual has the potential to save the lives of eight people in desperate need of organ donation, including those suffering from cancer, heart disease, lung failure, cirrhosis, kidney failure and more.
