Milrem Robotics, a part of the Edge organization and Europe‘s leading developer of robotics and autonomous systems, has unveiled the THeMIS Combat unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), equipped with the HALCON Hunter 2-S swarming loitering munition.
This significant advancement was showcased in London at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI 2023), one of the world’s premier defense and security exhibitions.
Wim Strydom, COO of HALCON, expressed pride in the collaboration, emphasizing how the THeMIS Combat’s capabilities align with EDGE’s smart weapons and autonomous systems. The UGV’s autonomous features are further enhanced by the HUNTER 2-S loitering munition, demonstrating the commitment to strategic partnerships within the Group.
Jüri Pajuste, Defence R&D Director of Milrem Robotics, highlighted the UGV’s maneuverability, stating that it can bring the THeMIS Combat with Hunter 2-S drones closer to enemy lines, enabling quicker engagement with nearby targets or scouting deeper behind enemy lines. Using robotic systems in such scenarios is more efficient compared to manned units.
The THeMIS UGV, a proven asset deployed in robotics programs across 16 countries, supports dismounted infantry units. It is equipped with MIFIK (Milrem’s Intelligent Functions Kit), enabling independent mobility, point-to-point navigation, follow-me capabilities, obstacle detection, and avoidance.
The Hunter 2-S, an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), possesses advanced AI for coordinated missions in a swarm. It autonomously follows flight plans, coordinates with other drones in a swarm, and can loiter while identifying and classifying targets until engagement by a human operator.
