Most expensive cities in the world for expats; Dubai ranks 18th

Abu Dhabi: According to a survey report, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are among the most expensive cities for expats to live in Mercer 2023 cost of living.

Due to geopolitical tensions and strong regional economic growth in the post-pandemic period, the cost of living has increased not only in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but across the region and the world.

According to Mercer, Dubai and Abu Dhabi climbed their ranks to become the 18th and 43rd most expensive cities in the world, respectively, up 13 and 18 places respectively from the previous year.

In the Middle East, Dubai is the second most expensive city for expats after Tel Aviv, ranking eighth.

“Despite the rise in rankings, the relative cost of living in the UAE remains competitive compared with major global cities. Factors such as inflation, exchange rate fluctuations and housing costs have contributed to these changes. The UAE has been proactive in addressing these issues, reflecting its Strong economic resilience.”

Mercer said.

Among other regional cities, Riyadh ranks 85th (up 18), Jeddah 101st (up 10), Doha 126th (up 7) and Muscat 130th (up 10). 11 bits).

On the list, the three most expensive cities in the world for expats to live in this year are Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich.

Mercer’s Cost of Living Survey is one of the most recognized and comprehensive surveys of its kind, helping global employers design effective and fair compensation packages for more than 400 positions worldwide.

This year’s ranking includes 227 cities from five continents. It measures the comparative costs of more than 200 items at each location, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment.
