Movie review: How good is the new sci-fi epic “Dune”?

[ad_1]

Dennis Villeneuve dune It will be screened at the UAE box office this weekend, and it will be a full month before its release in the United States. This is a huge gap in release dates, but at least in part because most of the film’s content was shot here, in Liwa’s own changing sand scene.

This is a philosophical science fiction drama that is truly epic in the sense that it is adopted by traditional and more modern millennials.Villeneuve’s movies (including Cicario, arrived with Blade Runner 2049) Proportion is often used as a way of isolating characters or concepts, conveying the experience of gazing at an infinite space on a clear night, and feeling humble for our personal role in the universe.

It is in space, on a series of distant planets, controlled by an unstable network of feudal houses, the story dune Play it out. Our protagonist is Paul, the young heir of the Atredes family. His family was pushed into the desert planet Alakis in the power struggle to control the galaxy’s most precious resource-“Spices”. The important thing is that it also has some very important resources. Psychedelic side effects.

The cast is led by the talented and emotional Timothée Chalamet (playing Paul Atreides), his father (unlike emotional stereotypes, he has no problems) played by Oscar Isaac, and Rebecca Ferguson as his mother— — Sister Bene Gesserit has pseudo-jedi thinking skills, Josh Brolin, David Bautista, Zandaya, Javier Baden and Jason Momoa have supporting roles. Villeneuve’s combination was inspired, the actors or key staff did not have any weaknesses.

A great man does not seek leadership: he is called to lead

dune Adapted from a series of books of the same name, author Frank Herbert’s masterpiece, this is a legend fighting some really great ideas, such as the fragility of the environment. As a fan of Herbert’s teenage works, director Denis Villeneuve is keenly aware of this. He said in the record: “This is a book that explores the impact and chaos caused by colonialism… [on the film] This is a psychological thriller. This is an adventure movie. This is a war movie. This is a youth film. This is even a love story. But most importantly, this is a tragedy. This is a powerful and complex story. This is very multifaceted. Nevertheless, we still try to deal with it from a simple perspective.”

This simple perspective seems to be the “Kubrick” attention to detail, a deep and thoughtful understanding of the creation text, and perhaps the only cinematographic style that can give Arakis authenticity.

In the 2 hours and 35 minutes of running time, we watched the impressive condensing of the first half of the original, narrated through paradigm shifting special effects, and contrasted with the unforgettable Hans Zimmer soundtrack. In short, we hardly lose nuance or depth of relationship. The sense of despair and Messianic awakening is told from the perspective of art and research.

In fact, the last time we left the cinema, it felt like watching a very suitable story on the big screen, after the Gladiator in 2000. This is not just a great movie, it is truly epoch-making, and we strongly recommend that you watch it on an IMAX screen to fully understand its scope.

Rating: 4.75/5

But why is it so important to the UAE…?

So we have determined that a considerable part of the dunes were shot here in the UAE. But this movie is not just another name for the country’s gleaming resume.

We spoke with Robbie McAree of Epic Films based in the UAE.Together with colleague Amanda Confavreux, Robbie is a service producer responsible for leading the new work of the local department dune In the movie, he has some exciting truths to share about what the science fiction epic means for the UAE’s role in the movie.

Latest news: how important dune The UAE’s reputation as a filming location for Hollywood movies?

Robbie: The UAE has seen the share of Hollywood, Bollywood and independent films that have chosen the country as a filming destination, but owning a film like DUNE does raise the bar. The Abu Dhabi part of DUNE has achieved great success, which will only lead to more and more international producers choosing the UAE.
