The number of people entering the city doesn’t just affect businesses.
The Return of Stillwater is a time of year when University Avenue is packed with people appreciating the outstanding home decor built by different Greek houses rather than the many cars passing by on the street.
Not far from all the festivities are two apartment complexes, Midtown and One on 4th in Stillwater. As one of the names suggests, these apartment complexes are located off 4th Street with easy access to University Avenue. With the influx of people into Stillwater, Midtown and One on 4th are easy to notice, especially when tourism is introduced.
Kaylen Heath, a One on 4th employee who worked at One on 4th during the Homecoming weekend last year, agreed that the two apartments were very similar.
“Going home brings a lot of people, so parents come in, alumni come in, and everyone wants to venture out and see this place,” Heath said. “We’ve definitely had a big increase in travel. Everyone’s like, ‘Let’s see next year’s housing. A lot of freshmen bring their families early on Thursdays and Fridays, and it’s been busy for us because they’re going to Come to travel, so we’re full of people calling in to ask prices and coming to travel all day, stuff like that. It’s definitely going to increase that aspect of people who live out of town and have more families in town , so of course there’s a lot of traffic throughout the hall.”
Madison Paul, a junior at OSU, is an employee of Midtown Stillwater. With all the festivities going on, she noted that when Homecoming rolls on, the volume usually goes up.
“A lot of people bring their friends downtown,” Paul said. “There are houses and things on the street, so people always walk through it.”
Midtown also celebrates Homecoming in a unique way each year. The social media pages will offer giveaways and prizes for those who enter through the Instagram page. This year’s lucky winner got an OSU football jersey with a water bottle, the perfect combination for a Stillwater game day.
While all the people who came in seemed like a difficult thing to do for the complex, they all managed to see the bright side of the situation and enjoy the festivities that come with the grand event.
