New Lane on Sheikh Zayed Road Opens to Cut Dubai Traffic
Dubai has opened a new lane on Sheikh Zayed Road near Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station, giving motorists a smoother route towards the World Trade Centre Intersection.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) completed a 2-kilometre road widening project on the busy section. The upgrade increases the number of lanes from six to seven and raises road capacity by 17 per cent.
The new lane serves traffic travelling from Abu Dhabi towards the World Trade Centre Intersection. According to the RTA, the improvement could reduce journey times by up to 10 per cent during peak hours, helping motorists spend less time in traffic.
Sheikh Zayed Road is one of Dubai’s most important highways. It connects major business, tourism and residential areas and provides access to destinations such as Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai International Financial Centre, the Museum of the Future, Al Karama and Al Mankhool.
The latest improvement is part of Dubai’s wider efforts to increase road capacity and improve traffic movement as the city continues to grow. The RTA has also recently opened a second-level bridge at the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development, adding another improvement to the area’s road network.
For daily commuters, the new lane on Sheikh Zayed Road could mean shorter peak-hour journeys and better traffic flow, particularly for motorists heading towards central Dubai and the World Trade Centre area.
